Famous quotes containing the word principles:

It is a life-and-death conflict between all those grand, universal, man-respecting principles which we call by the comprehensive term democracy, and all those partial, person-respecting, class-favoring elements which we group together under that silver-slippered word aristocracy. If this war does not mean that, it means nothing.
    Antoinette Brown Blackwell (1825–1921)

In her present ignorance, woman’s religion, instead of making her noble and free, by the wrong application of great principles of right and justice, has made her bondage but more certain and lasting, her degradation more hopeless and complete.
    Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815–1902)

Though the ancients were ignorant of the principles of Christianity there were in them the germs of its spirit.
    Herman Melville (1819–1891)
