Renaming The School: 1954

The Boston Dental College was established in 1868. In 1899, Tufts acquired the Boston Dental College, and the renamed Tufts School of Dental Medicine began operation in close coordination with the Tufts School of Medicine.

When the trustees decided to change the name of the institution from "Tufts College" to "Tufts University" in 1954, the dental school became the "Tufts University School of Dental Medicine."
