A tornado watch means that the conditions have created a significant risk of a tornado occurring. In contrast, a tornado warning is used when the severe weather is actually occurring. If severe weather actually does occur, a tornado watch will be upgraded to a tornado warning.

Famous quotes containing the words tornado and/or watch:
“The sumptuous age of stars and images is reduced to a few artificial tornado effects, pathetic fake buildings, and childish tricks which the crowd pretends to be taken in by to avoid feeling too disappointed. Ghost towns, ghost people. The whole place has the same air of obsolescence about it as Sunset or Hollywood Boulevard.”
—Jean Baudrillard (b. 1929)
“I watch the clouds as I see them
in pomp advancing, pursuing
the fallen sun.”
—Denise Levertov (b. 1923)
