Tonsillitis

Tonsillitis is inflammation of the tonsils most commonly caused by a viral or bacterial infection whose symptoms include sore throat and fever. The overwhelming majority of patients recover completely with or without medication. In 40%, symptoms have resolved in three days and within one week in 85%, regardless of whether streptococcal infection (a common cause) is present or not.
