The Luminous Fairies and Mothra

The Luminous Fairies and Mothra is a serialized novel written by Takehiko Fukunaga, Shinichiro Nakamura, and Yoshie Hotta. Originally serialized in Weekly Asahi and later collected in paperback form, the novel was the basis for the 1961 film Mothra and is the first appearance of the kaiju Mothra. Not much is known about what differences from the finished screenplay it may have had, except that the fairies were called Airenas and there were more than two.

Famous quotes containing the words luminous and/or fairies:

If suffering brought wisdom, the dentist’s office would be full of luminous ideas.
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)

As I went forth early on a still and frosty morning, the trees looked like airy creatures of darkness caught napping; on this side huddled together, with their gray hairs streaming, in a secluded valley which the sun had not penetrated; on that, hurrying off in Indian file along some watercourse, while the shrubs and grasses, like elves and fairies of the night, sought to hide their diminished heads in the snow.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
