The Hong Kong Children's Choir (HKCC) (chn.香港兒童合唱團) was founded in 1969, as a private non-profit making charitable organisation. It is one of the best children's choirs in Hong Kong. Founded with 39 members only, it is now the largest children's choir organisation in the world with over 5000 members consisting of children aged 4–17. Training in dance, art, musical instruments, and Putonghua is provided in addition to choral training. Each year, the Chamber choir of the HKCC is invited to give overseas performances, with the mission of spreading the message of love and peace. The Choir has been well received in over 57 cities, gaining an international reputation as "one of the best children's choirs in the world" and "the Little Goodwill Singing Ambassadors from Hong Kong". In 2003, HKCC was awarded the "China's Top Ten Children Chorus" and won the "Award of the Audience" in Vivace International Choir Festival in Hungary in 2006.
Famous quotes containing the words children and/or choir:
“Friends serve central functions for children that parents do not, and they play a critical role in shaping childrens social skills and their sense of identity. . . . The difference between a child with close friendships and a child who wants to make friends but is unable to can be the difference between a child who is happy and a child who is distressed in one large area of life.”
—Zick Rubin (20th century)
“O thou, with dewy locks, who lookest down
Through the clear windows of the morning; turn
Thine angel eyes upon our western isle,
Which in full choir hails thy approach, O Spring!”
—William Blake (17571827)
