The Harvey Grammar School - Leadership and Structure

Leadership and Structure

The current principal is Bill Wright. Wright is well known to many Old Harveians, having previously served as Deputy Headteacher for 22 years. The current Chair of Governors is Mr Dennis who replaced the long-serving Trevor Greening in 2006. At the end of 2012, Bill Wright announced that at the end of the Christmas term in 2013 he would be stepping down as the principal after a total of 6 years as the schools headmaster.

The principal is supported by his Senior Leadership Team that help run the school on a daily basis. This includes senior vice principal, Mr Norman, the vice principal, Mr Goodfellow, and four Heads of House. Two of the longest serving members of staff, Martin Hydes and Phil Harding, left their duties at the end of the 2010/11 academic year. Mr Scott Norman is to become the new headmaster in December 2013 (as chosen by the Governing Body).

The school's site is fantastically managed by Mr Kim Bridgland (Site Manager).

The school has re-formed its house system, with four houses (Discovery, Endeavour, Resolution and Victory) that use the colours green, blue, red and yellow respectively. The Heads of House are as follows: Discovery - Miss Thompson, Endeavour - Mrs Turnbull, Resolution - Mr Bristow, Victory - Mr Allon

The school also takes pupil care very seriously, and every house has one Learning Support Manager (or LSM)

LSMs are as follows: Discovery: Mrs Middleton, Endeavour: Miss Gooding, Resolution: Mrs Abu Saada, Victory: Mr Hancox

Each academic department has a Head of Subject and staff below who report directly to this manager and ultimately the Principal.

The heads of departments are as follows (2012-13): English: Mr M C Dickens, Maths: Mrs E M Dearden, Science: Mr P Maull, Modern Foreign Languages: Mrs J Guibert-Paxton, IT & Computer Science: Mrs E L Wright, Geography: Miss A L Chapman, History & G&P: Mrs C M Clough, Religious Studies & Philosophy: Miss J Thompson, Physical Eduction: Mr P M Castle, Design & Technology: Mr M Byles, Art & Design: Mr S Bolton,

Sixth Formers are given responsibility as prefects, coordinated by the most Senior Prefects and an elected Head Boy.

Famous quotes containing the words leadership and, leadership and/or structure:

A woman who occupies the same realm of thought with man, who can explore with him the depths of science, comprehend the steps of progress through the long past and prophesy those of the momentous future, must ever be surprised and aggravated with his assumptions of leadership and superiority, a superiority she never concedes, an authority she utterly repudiates.
    Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815–1902)

The liberal wing of the feminist movement may have improved the lives of its middle- and upper-class constituency—indeed, 1992 was the Year of the White Middle Class Woman—but since the leadership of this faction of the feminist movement has singled out black men as the meta-enemy of women, these women represent one of the most serious threats to black male well-being since the Klan.
    Ishmael Reed (b. 1938)

A committee is organic rather than mechanical in its nature: it is not a structure but a plant. It takes root and grows, it flowers, wilts, and dies, scattering the seed from which other committees will bloom in their turn.
    C. Northcote Parkinson (1909–1993)
