Violet, Klaus, Sunny, Count Olaf and Kit Snicket all make their final appearances in this book. It is the only book to include the characters of Friday, Ishmael, Mrs Caliban and the other islanders, as well as Beatrice Baudelaire (Kit's baby daughter).

Famous quotes containing the word characters:
“The Nature of Familiar Letters, written, as it were, to the Moment, while the Heart is agitated by Hopes and Fears, on Events undecided, must plead an Excuse for the Bulk of a Collection of this Kind. Mere Facts and Characters might be comprised in a much smaller Compass: But, would they be equally interesting?”
—Samuel Richardson (16891761)
“What makes literature interesting is that it does not survive its translation. The characters in a novel are made out of the sentences. Thats what their substance is.”
—Jonathan Miller (b. 1936)
“Waxed-fleshed out-patients
Still vague from accidents,
And characters in long coats
Deep in the litter-baskets
All dodging the toad work
By being stupid or weak.”
—Philip Larkin (19221986)
