The Aquabats! Super Show! stars and is centered around fictionalized versions of the current (since 2006) line-up of the California rock band The Aquabats. Adapting the backstory the band has used for the entirety of their professional career, Super Show! depicts The Aquabats as a group of bumbling, out-of-shape superheros on a never-ending self-appointed mission to fight evil, presented in both live-action and animated segments. The members of The Aquabats are:

  • The MC Bat Commander (played and voiced by Christian Jacobs) - The Aquabats' lead singer and de facto leader of the team. Although he doesn't have any superpowers of his own, the Commander is a brave and determined - if mostly naive and impulsive - leader.
  • Crash McLarson (played and voiced by Chad Larson) - The band's bass guitarist, who has the frequently uncontrollable ability to grow up to 50 feet in size. Despite being overly emotional and slightly dim-witted, Crash is the kindest and most good-natured member of The Aquabats.
  • Jimmy the Robot (played and voiced by James R. Briggs, Jr.) - The Aquabats' android keyboardist. In addition to housing a variety of built-in weaponry, Jimmy has a comprehensive knowledge database, and thusly serves as the team's science officer. Being a robot, Jimmy is commonly perplexed by human emotions and behavior.
  • Ricky Fitness (played and voiced by Richard Falomir) - the band's drummer, who possesses the power of super speed. As his name implies, Ricky is the most health-conscious and physically fit of The Aquabats; as such, Ricky is depicted as a suave and charming ladies' man of sorts.
  • EagleBones Falconhawk (played and voiced by Ian Fowles) - The Aquabats' guitarist. The cocky maverick of the group, EagleBones is highly proficient on his custom weaponized electric guitar. He is also accompanied by "The Dude", an invisible spirit eagle who he summons to assist the band in battle.

Each episode of The Aquabats! Super Show! features a rotating array of villains and monsters in a typical villain of the week formula, some of which have been adapted from The Aquabats band mythology. Several episodes also feature one-off appearances from non-antagonistic characters such as fellow superheroes or celebrity cameos. As of the first season, Super Show! has yet to feature any recurring characters.

Voice actor and writer Mr. Lawrence provides the live-action segments' minimal narration, while television writer Kyle McCulloch narrates the series' animated segments.
