Tassilo Thierbach - Life and Work

Life and Work

The pair trained in Karl-Marx-Stadt (Chemnitz) and skated for the club SC Karl-Marx-Stadt; their coach was Irene Salzmann. They were the only East Germans to win the title of World Champion in pair figure skating.

Tassilo Thierbach teamed up with 5 skating partners altogether: Romy Kermer (silver medallist at the Olympic Games with Rolf Österreich in 1976); Antje Heck; Petra Ronge; Sylvia Walter; and finally Sabine Baeß. In 1980 he suffered a meniscus injury to his knee, for which surgery was necessary. For this reason Baeß and Thierbach had to miss the Nationals and the Europeans in 1981.

Tassilo Thierbach was self-employed today and runs the company Automaten Großaufstellung Tassilo Thierbach GmbH in Chemnitz. He currently works as figure skating coach in the team of Ingo Steuer in Chemnitz.

Famous quotes containing the words life and/or work:

Perhaps the happiest moment of my life was then, when I saw that our line didn’t break and that the enemy’s did.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)

Whoever is not in the possession of leisure can hardly be said to possess independence. They talk of the dignity of work. Bosh. True work is the necessity of poor humanity’s earthly condition. The dignity is in leisure. Besides, 99 hundredths of all the work done in the world is either foolish and unnecessary, or harmful and wicked.
    Herman Melville (1819–1891)
