Since 2008, to coincide with the roll-out of new branding, the Library system is now known as Napier Libraries. The former Taradale Library, created through extension of the former Rugby Club Rooms, was opened on White Street in 1995. The current re-built and enlarged Taradale Library building re-opened on 13 July 2009. The Taradale Library extension project was a major focus of the Study and it was recommended that the Library building be extended to a total floor area of 1275 square metres. The upgrade of $1.7-million, provided a light and spacious building that caters for the information, educational and recreational needs of all age groups. The new-look library makes the most of its setting in White Street, with comfortable seating and extensive windows that take advantage of views of Centennial and Taradale parks.

Tareha Recreational Reserve

Tareha Recreational Reserve, Originally set aside as a Crown reserve in 1917 as part of a soil conservation and river control reserve for the Tutaekuri River, the land was cut off from the riverbed by the construction of the stopbank in 1970. Its ownership passed from the Hawke's Bay Catchment Board to the Hawke's Bay Regional Council, and during this period it was used as a nursery and for grazing stock. In 1992, the Taradale Rugby Club approached the regional council looking to lease the area for playing fields. The negotiations that followed saw the transfer of the land to Napier City to be developed as a recreation reserve for the rapidly expanding urban area of Taradale-Greenmeadows.

The park's name commemorates an outstanding Maori figure involved in the early affairs of the area.

Park Island

Park Island Sports complex is within 5 minutes drive of Taradale and is heavily used for local, regional and national sporting events, in particular soccer hockey and rugby.

Famous quotes containing the word facilities:

Marriage is good enough for the lower classes: they have facilities for desertion that are denied to us.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)

I have always found that when men have exhausted their own resources, they fall back on “the intentions of the Creator.” But their platitudes have ceased to have any influence with those women who believe they have the same facilities for communication with the Divine mind as men have.
    Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815–1902)
