Taj International Airport - Political Support and Opposition

Political Support and Opposition

The airport was a pet project of Ms Mayawati, leader of the BSP and ex Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. When Ms. Mayawati was supporting the Congress government at the Center it seemed that the airport project would be cleared with GMR being given the first right of refusal to creation of the airport. However, after the BSP voted against the Congress government on the India-US nuclear deal, the airport decision was put on hold. With RLD chief Ajit Singh taking over as the new Union civil aviation minister, hope was kindled for the long-cherished dream of having a greenfield Taj international airport and aviation hub (TIAH) at Jewar, near the national capital.

Famous quotes containing the words political, support and/or opposition:

What are all political and social institutions, but always a religion, which in realizing itself, becomes incarnate in the world?
    Edgar Quinet (1803–1875)

Many people now believe that if fathers are more involved in raising children than they were, children and sons in particular will learn that men can be warm and supportive of others as well as be high achievers. Thus, fathers’ involvement may be beneficial not because it will help support traditional male roles, but because it will help break them down.
    Joseph H. Pleck (20th century)

The opposition is indispensable. A good statesman, like any other sensible human being, always learns more from his opponents than from his fervent supporters. For his supporters will push him to disaster unless his opponents show him where the dangers are. So if he is wise he will often pray to be delivered from his friends, because they will ruin him. But though it hurts, he ought also to pray never to be left without opponents; for they keep him on the path of reason and good sense.
    Walter Lippmann (1889–1974)
