Religious Life
Suryavarman II was unusual among Khmer kings in making Vishnu rather than Shiva the focus of court religious life. The reasons for this decision are not known. Famous quotes containing the words religious and/or life:
“Yet the New Testament treats of man and mans so-called spiritual affairs too exclusively, and is too constantly moral and personal, to alone content me, who am not interested solely in mans religious or moral nature, or in man even.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Why should not our whole life and its scenery be actually thus fair and distinct? All our lives want a suitable background. They should at least, like the life of the anchorite, be as impressive to behold as objects in a desert, a broken shaft or crumbling mound against a limitless horizon.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
