Summer - School Break

School Break

Schools and universities typically have a summer break to take advantage of the warmer weather and longer days. In all countries, children are out of school during this time of year for summer break, although dates vary. In the United States, public schools usually end in early June while colleges get out in early May. In England and Wales, school ends in mid-July and resumes again in early September; in Scotland the summer holiday begins in late June and ends in mid- to late-August. In the Southern hemisphere, school summer holiday dates include the major holidays of Christmas and New Year's Day. School summer holidays in Australia begin in mid-December and end in late January, with the dates varying between states.

Famous quotes containing the words school and/or break:

We have passed the time of ... the laisser-faire [sic] school which believes that the government ought to do nothing but run a police force.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)

    But this rough magic
I here abjure, and when I have required
Some heavenly music—which even now I do—
To work mine end upon their senses that
This airy charm is for, I’ll break my staff,
Bury it certain fathoms in the earth,
And deeper than did ever plummet sound
    I’ll drown my book.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
