Sultan Agung of Mataram - Death

Death

In 1645 Sultan Agung began building Imogiri, his burial place, about 15 kilometers south of Yogyakarta. Agung died in the spring of 1646, leaving behind an empire that covered most of Java and stretched to its neighboring islands.

Famous quotes containing the word death:

To die proudly when it is no longer possible to live proudly. Death freely chosen, death at the right time, brightly and cheerfully accomplished amid children and witnesses: then a real farewell is still possible, as the one who is taking leave is still there; also a real estimate of what one has wished, drawing the sum of one’s life—all in opposition to the wretched and revolting comedy that Christianity has made of the hour of death.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)

    No man may him hide
    From Death hollow-eyed,
    John Skelton (1460?–1529)

You mustn’t be afraid of death. When this ship sailed, death sailed on her.
—Charles Larkworthy. Denison Clift. Anton Lorenzen (Bela Lugosi)
