Star Wars Customizable Card Game - Design-A-Card Contest

Design-A-Card Contest

In February 1997, Decipher launched the "Design-A-Card" contest. People from all over the world would have an opportunity to design the card they always wished were a part of the Star Wars Customizable Card Game. Decipher said the winner of the contest would win a display box of the "Special Edition" expansion set, and the winning card design would actually be printed and included in the "Special Edition" expansion set. On May 23, 1997, Guy Kargl was announced as the contest winner, with his S-Foils card design. In November 1998, Decipher released the Special Edition expansion set. This practice of allowing regular players to design cards later became commonplace when the Players Committee took over the game. From 2002 onward, players were awarded their own virtual card designs as a reward for winning major tournaments or volunteering significant amounts of time on behalf of the Players Committee.

Famous quotes containing the word contest:

Another danger is imminent: A contested result. And we have no such means for its decision as ought to be provided by law. This must be attended to hereafter.... If a contest comes now it may lead to a conflict of arms. I can only try to do my duty to my countrymen in that case. I shall let no personal ambition turn me from the path of duty. Bloodshed and civil war must be averted if possible. If forced to fight, I have no fears from lack of courage or firmness.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)
