Plot
See also: Plot of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty and Plot of StarCraft II: Heart of the SwarmAs the Brood Wars drew to a close, Zeratul stumbled across a research facility that was involved in efforts to create a Protoss/Zerg Hybrid. In a subsequent conversation with Samir Duran, Zeratul was told by the allegedly infested Terran that he actually served what he called "a far greater power, a power that has slept for countless ages". Disturbed by the discovery, Zeratul wandered the void in solitude looking for information on the Hybrid. He discovered and deciphered a prophecy rumored to foretell the return of the Xel'Naga, and from Tassadar obtained vital information about the future from the remains of the original Overmind, in the process learning that the key to salvation for the Protoss, Terran, and Zerg races rested solely in the hands of Sarah Kerrigan.
On the eve of Kerrigan's assault of Korhal, she was summoned to the Skygeirr Platform by former UED Vice Admiral Alexi Stukov. Alexi explained that the facility was the Dominion's primary Hybrid research center, and that Dr. Emil Narud was actually an ancient shape shifter in the employment of a fallen Xel'Naga known as Amon. In a showdown with Narud, Kerrigan was critically wounded, but managed to kill the shape shifter. With his dying breath, Narud warned Kerrigan that Amon had been resurrected and that she would see him soon. In the aftermath of the Battle on Korhal, Kerrigan gathered the entirety of the Zerg Swarm to search for Amon.
As in the previous two games, which focused on Jim Raynor and Sarah Kerrigan, the third installment of StarCraft II will focus on Zeratul as its main character. The Protoss were being systematically exterminated and were dying out from sheer age even before the Great War. The Protoss have been picked off one-by-one, and their shattered civilization will fracture as something even worse happens, forcing a leader to save them from annihilation.
The Protoss will be at the forefront of the story. Jim Raynor and Sarah Kerrigan will feature in the story, but Amon is the primary issue. Chris Metzen has likened the story to that of the film 300, with a small force engaging a much more powerful one in a desperate last stand. The storyline will conclude the StarCraft II trilogy.

Famous quotes containing the word plot:
“Jamess great gift, of course, was his ability to tell a plot in shimmering detail with such delicacy of treatment and such fine aloofnessthat is, reluctance to engage in any direct grappling with what, in the play or story, had actually taken placeMthat his listeners often did not, in the end, know what had, to put it in another way, gone on.”
—James Thurber (18941961)
“The plot was most interesting. It belonged to no particular age, people, or country, and was perhaps the more delightful on that account, as nobodys previous information could afford the remotest glimmering of what would ever come of it.”
—Charles Dickens (18121870)
“The westward march has stopped, upon the final plains of the Pacific; and now the plot thickens ... with the change, the pause, the settlement, our people draw into closer groups, stand face to face, to know each other and be known.”
—Woodrow Wilson (18561924)
