St. Mary's Canossian College

St. Mary's Canossian College (Chinese: 嘉諾撒聖瑪利書院;demonym: St. Marian) is a Catholic girl's secondary school in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong. It was founded in 1900, and is situated at the junction of Austin Road and Chatham Road South. Other Catholic buildings, like the Rosary Church and the St. Mary's Canossian School, are adjacent to the school.

The school, known as St Mary's School in the past, was originally aimed at educating the Portuguese girls living in Kowloon (Hong Kong). However, this gradually changed, and as for now, 98% of the students are Han Chinese.

Students are taught by Sisters and experienced teachers.

Famous quotes containing the words mary and/or college:

    I met with virgins seven,
And one of them was Mary mild,
    Our Lord’s mother from heaven.
Unknown. The Seven Virgins (l. 2–4)

The mode of founding a college is, commonly, to get up a subscription of dollars and cents, and then, following blindly the principles of a division of labor to its extreme,—a principle which should never be followed but with circumspection,—to call in a contractor who makes this a subject of speculation,... and for these oversights successive generations have to pay.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
