St. Jerome and Abraham Panels (Antonello Da Messina) - Abraham Served By The Angels

Abraham Served By The Angels

Due to its poor conditions, for a long time this work was considered a part of a larger Nativity. Famous quotes containing the words abraham, served and/or angels:

    As for evildoers, for them awaits a painful chastisement;
    but for those who believe, and do deeds
    of righteousness, they shall be admitted
    to gardens underneath which rivers flow,
    therein dwelling forever,
    by the leave of their Lord, their greeting
    therein: “Peace!”
    —Qur’An. Abraham 14:28 (ed. Arthur J. Arberry, 1955)

    The recent attempt to secure a charter from the State of North Dakota for a lottery company, the pending effort to obtain from the State of Louisiana a renewal of the charter of the Louisiana State Lottery, and the establishment of one or more lottery companies at Mexican towns near our border, have served the good purpose of calling public attention to an evil of vast proportions.
    Benjamin Harrison (1833–1901)

    What angels invented these splendid ornaments, these rich conveniences, this ocean of air above, this ocean of water beneath, this firmament of earth between? this zodiac of lights, this tent of dropping clouds, this striped coat of climates, this fourfold year?
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
