Coaching Career
In 2008, Cumbie began his coaching career at Texas Tech as a graduate assistant under head coach Mike Leach where he was in charge of the defensive scout team and coaching the quarterbacks. Cumbie served in this capacity for two seasons. After Leach's departure, Tommy Tuberville was hired as the head coach for the team. He promoted Cumbie to inside receivers coach, a post held formerly by current East Carolina Pirates football offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley.
In 2009, Cumbie served as the head coach and director of player personnel for the San Angelo Stampede Express of the Indoor Football League. Four games into the season, Cumbie became the starting Quarterback and lead the team to the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.
Following the hiring of coach Kliff Kingsbury after the subsequent departure of Tommy Tuberville from Texas Texas, Cumbie was the only assistant retained by Kingsbury. Cumbie was promoted to co-offensive coordinator prior to the start of the 2013 season.

Famous quotes containing the word career:
“Each of the professions means a prejudice. The necessity for a career forces every one to take sides. We live in the age of the overworked, and the under-educated; the age in which people are so industrious that they become absolutely stupid.”
—Oscar Wilde (18541900)
