Socialist Party of Serbia - Accusations of Illegal Activities

Accusations of Illegal Activities

Critics of the party have accused the SPS of involvement with organised crime, blackmail, political assassinations (such as former Serbian President Ivan Stambolić), supporting paramilitary formations during the Yugoslav Wars, and profiteering from illicit drug and oil trade.

The party received 1,000,000 barrels (160,000 m3) worth of oil vouchers in the United Nations Oil-for-Food Programme, according to the paper "The Beneficiaries of Saddam's Oil Vouchers: The List of 270".

Famous quotes containing the words accusations, illegal and/or activities:

In marriage there are no manners to keep up, and beneath the wildest accusations no real criticism. Each is familiar with that ancient child in the other who may erupt again.... We are not ridiculous to ourselves. We are ageless. That is the luxury of the wedding ring.
    Enid Bagnold (1889–1981)

It ought to be illegal for an artist to marry.... If the artist must marry let him find someone more interested in art, or his art, or the artist part of him, than in him. After which let them take tea together three times a week.
    Ezra Pound (1885–1972)

Minds do not act together in public; they simply stick together; and when their private activities are resumed, they fly apart again.
    Frank Moore Colby (1865–1925)
