Sithalapakkam was a relatively unpolluted place, however, due to factories and human settlement its pollution levels have increased dramatically. Food companies located near Sithalapakkam avenue generates effluents, which is pumped into Sithalapakkam lake, smoke and heavier than air particles are released into the atmosphere.

Lack of garbage disposal system has ensured build up of plastic. Almost every road in Sithalapakkam has plastic bag moving about in the wind. Sithalapakkam is one among many panchayats in India which do not segregate waste into bio degradable and non-bio degradable. thus waste disposal is in mess.

A dump yard located just near Sithapakkam burns solid municipal waste thus adding to air pollution and pollution leaching into the ground during rains. Sithalapakkam is yet to have any public toilets, so human waste is also a major problem which is not yet sorted out.

Sithalapakkam has a huge collection of stray dogs, they contribute to noise pollution mainly by barking in nights. There is no steralization programs implemented yet for dogs here.
