Sierra Madre Occidental - Water

Water

The mountains act as a source of water, in an otherwise arid environment from the increased precipitation from the mountain range. This has led many of the rivers that runoff of the mountains to become a source of water for irrigation in the surrounding lands. From the need of water to irrigate the mountains, dams were built, which has caused several environmental concerns in the area.

Famous quotes containing the word water:

We then entered another swamp, at a necessarily slow pace, where the walking was worse than ever, not only on account of the water, but the fallen timber, which often obliterated the indistinct trail entirely. The fallen trees were so numerous, that for long distances the route was through a succession of small yards, where we climbed over fences as high as our heads, down into water often up to our knees, and then over another fence into a second yard, and so on.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

    Over the water come
Children from homes and children’s parks
Who speak on a finger and thumb,
    And the masked, headless boy.
    Dylan Thomas (1914–1953)

Smooth runs the water where the brook is deep.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
