Shock Wave (Six Flags Over Texas) - History

History

When it opened in 1978, Shock Wave was the tallest roller coaster in the world. It lost this title within weeks upon the opening of The Loch Ness Monster at Busch Gardens: The Old Country.

The ride is built on Johnson Creek real estate, and had to temporarily close in the 2004 season because of a flood. Shock Wave temporarily closed again in early 2008 for an extensive remodeling.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The history of progress is written in the blood of men and women who have dared to espouse an unpopular cause, as, for instance, the black man’s right to his body, or woman’s right to her soul.
    Emma Goldman (1869–1940)

A man will not need to study history to find out what is best for his own culture.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

In nature, all is useful, all is beautiful. It is therefore beautiful, because it is alive, moving, reproductive; it is therefore useful, because it is symmetrical and fair. Beauty will not come at the call of a legislature, nor will it repeat in England or America its history in Greece. It will come, as always, unannounced, and spring up between the feet of brave and earnest men.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
