Personal
Alexander married Valerie Alexander (née Boyd) in April 2002 after a two-year courtship. Together, the couple have three daughters and a son: Heaven (b. September 21, 2003), Trinity (b. July 28, 2005), Eden, and Joseph. His older brother by one year Durran serves as executive director of the Shaun Alexander Foundation.
A born-again Christian, Alexander and his wife are very outspoken about their faith and are regular attendees at Federal Way's Christian Faith Center. Firm supporters of abstinence and sexual purity, Shaun and Valerie both were virgins when they married. Alexander has discussed the issue publicly on many occasions, including in his book Touchdown Alexander.
Alexander has graced the cover of Madden 2007 and NCAA Football 2001. This makes him the first of three people (along with Larry Fitzgerald and Barry Sanders) in the history of the EA Sports American Football games to appear on two different covers.

Famous quotes containing the word personal:
“What had really caused the womens movement was the additional years of human life. At the turn of the century womens life expectancy was forty-six; now it was nearly eighty. Our groping sense that we couldnt live all those years in terms of motherhood alone was the problem that had no name. Realizing that it was not some freakish personal fault but our common problem as women had enabled us to take the first steps to change our lives.”
—Betty Friedan (20th century)
“Close friends contribute to our personal growth. They also contribute to our personal pleasure, making the music sound sweeter, the wine taste richer, the laughter ring louder because they are there.”
—Judith Viorst (20th century)
“Wherever the State touches the personal life of the infant, the child, the youth, or the aged, helpless, defective in mind, body or moral nature, there the State enters womans peculiar sphere, her sphere of motherly succor and training, her sphere of sympathetic and self-sacrificing ministration to individual lives.”
—Anna Garlin Spencer (18511931)
