Shadow Cabinet of Italy

Several shadow cabinets have been declared in Italy:

  • The Shadow Cabinet of Italy (1989), launched by Alessandro Natta, Secretary of the Italian Communist Party, after the 1987 Italian general election. The shadow cabinet was officially presented on 19 July 1989
  • The Shadow Cabinet of Italy (2008), announced on 15 April 2008, by Walter Veltroni, Secretary of the Democratic Party, after the 2008 Italian general election

Famous quotes containing the words shadow, cabinet and/or italy:

Shakespeare carries us to such a lofty strain of intelligent activity, as to suggest a wealth which beggars his own; and we then feel that the splendid works which he has created, and which in other hours we extol as a sort of self-existent poetry, take no stronger hold of real nature than the shadow of a passing traveller on the rock. The inspiration which uttered itself in Hamlet and Lear could utter things as good from day to day, for ever.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

In a cabinet of natural history, we become sensible of a certain occult recognition and sympathy in regard to the most unwieldy and eccentric forms of beast, fish, and insect.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

In Italy for thirty years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, bloodshed—they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love, five hundred years of democracy and peace, and what did they produce? The cuckoo clock!
    Orson Welles (1915–84)
