Passenger Volume
Below are the passenger usage statistics from years starting April 2002 to April 2010. Comparing 2002 with later years has shown a general increase on the line in usage. The most recent figures have been attributed to an improved service. The high usage at Clifton Down is due in part to its proximity to Bristol Zoo and a major shopping area.
Comparing April 2010 to April 2002, on the main line, Lawrence Hill and Stapleton Road have increased 73% and 59% respectively. On the branch line, the stations with the biggest changes were Severn Beach, Avonmouth and Clifton Down with 215%, 109% and 131% respectively. The lowest increase was at Shirehampton with only 13%. Sea Mills and St Andrews Road showed increases and 42% and 43% although St Andrews Road has shown a decline in numbers over the years, with the passing year showing an increase again. Finally, Montpelier and Redland have increased similarly at 80% and by 85%, respectively.

Famous quotes containing the words passenger and/or volume:
“Every American travelling in England gets his own individual sport out of the toy passenger and freight trains and the tiny locomotives, with their faint, indignant, tiny whistle. Especially in western England one wonders how the business of a nation can possibly be carried on by means so insufficient.”
—Willa Cather (18761947)
“So it is with books, for the most part: they work no redemption on us. The bookseller might certainly know that his customers are in no respect better for the purchase and consumption of his wares. The volume is dear at a dollar, and after to reading to weariness the lettered backs, we leave the shop with a sigh, and learn, as I did without surprise of a surly bank director, that in bank parlors they estimate all stocks of this kind as rubbish.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
