Inflammatory diseases of the eye are also a potential application because corticoids can promote glaucoma, cataract, and eye infections. It remains to be seen whether selective receptor agonists cause significantly less side-effects than classical corticoids in clinical application.
The atrophic effects of glucocorticoids are not always a disadvantage. The treatment of hyperproliferative diseases like psoriasis makes use of this property. SEGRAs would likely be less effective in such conditions.
