Samsara Foundation - Focus

Focus

Samsara works in Northern Thailand - especially in one of the country’s poorest provinces, Mae Hong Son. Priority is given to very basic and concrete projects like the installation of water purification systems, the building of kitchens and dormitories and the provision of educational tools.Besides these projects, Samsara provides scholarships for individual children who have promising school results but may not have the means to continue their studies without financial support.

Samsara focuses its efforts on remote mountain villages, home to many hill tribes like the Karen people and the Hmong. The average annual income per family is around 10,000 baht (approximately €210, US$333).

Famous quotes containing the word focus:

Why is it so difficult—so degradingly difficult—to bring the notion of Time into mental focus and keep it there for inspection? What an effort, what fumbling, what irritating fatigue!
    Vladimir Nabokov (1899–1977)

If we focus exclusively on teaching our children to read, write, spell, and count in their first years of life, we turn our homes into extensions of school and turn bringing up a child into an exercise in curriculum development. We should be parents first and teachers of academic skills second.
    Neil Kurshan (20th century)

I don’t have any doubts that there will be a place for progressive white people in this country in the future. I think the paranoia common among white people is very unfounded. I have always organized my life so that I could focus on political work. That’s all I want to do, and that’s all that makes me happy.
Hettie V., South African white anti-apartheid activist and feminist. As quoted in Lives of Courage, ch. 21, by Diana E. H. Russell (1989)
