Joseph Ronald "Ronnie" Drew (Irish: Ránall Ó Draoi ) (16 September 1934 – 16 August 2008) was an Irish singer and folk musician who achieved international fame during a fifty-year career recording with The Dubliners. Born in Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin, he was recognisable for his long beard and his voice, which was once described by Nathan Joseph as being "like the sound of coke being crushed under a door".

Famous quotes containing the words ronnie and/or drew:

Could Ronnie really have become a sahib?
    David Lean (1908–1991)

We read poetry because the poets, like ourselves, have been haunted by the inescapable tyranny of time and death; have suffered the pain of loss, and the more wearing, continuous pain of frustration and failure; and have had moods of unlooked-for release and peace. They have known and watched in themselves and others.
    —Elizabeth Drew (1887–1965)
