Famous quotes containing the word subjects:

... writers do not find subjects: subjects find them. There is not so much a search as a state of open susceptibility.
    Elizabeth Bowen (1899–1973)

Art and religion first; then philosophy; lastly science. That is the order of the great subjects of life, that’s their order of importance.
    Muriel Spark (b. 1918)

[ellipsis in source] Illness, old age, and death—subjects as ancient as humanity—these are the subjects that the poet must speak of very nearly from the first moment that he begins to speak.
    Louise Bogan (1897–1970)
