Coordinates: 33°23′20″N 86°52′37″W / 33.389°N 86.87687°W / 33.389; -86.87687 The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail is a collection of championship caliber golf courses, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., distributed across the state of Alabama, as part of investments by the Retirement Systems of Alabama. The Trail started with 378 holes at eight sites throughout the state, but has grown to 468 holes at eleven sites.

The concept was created and executed by Dr. David Bronner, CEO of the Retirement Systems of Alabama. The mission was to effectively diversify the assets of the state's pension fund and economically help the state of Alabama, the philosophy being that "the stronger the Retirement Systems of Alabama can make Alabama, the stronger the Retirement Systems will be."

Two of the courses currently host events on the LPGA Tour: The Senator course at Capitol Hill, which hosts the Navistar LPGA Classic, and The Crossings course at Magnolia Grove, home to the Avnet LPGA Classic.

Famous quotes containing the words jones, golf and/or trail:

... there are no limits to which powers of privilege will not go to keep the workers in slavery.
    —Mother Jones (1830–1930)

Years ago we discovered the exact point, the dead center of middle age. It occurs when you are too young to take up golf and too old to rush up to the net.
    Franklin Pierce Adams (1881–1960)

These, and such as these, must be our antiquities, for lack of human vestiges. The monuments of heroes and the temples of the gods which may once have stood on the banks of this river are now, at any rate, returned to dust and primitive soil. The murmur of unchronicled nations has died away along these shores, and once more Lowell and Manchester are on the trail of the Indian.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
