Department of Astronomy

The Rizal Technological University was the first institution of higher learning in the Philippines to offer an undergraduate and graduate degree program in Astronomy.

The Bachelor of Science in Astronomy Technology is a five-year intensive program designed to prepare undergraduate students to become future research scientists and technologists in the field of astronomy. The program itself is a merging of two well established sciences, Astronomy and Engineering, as evidenced by the number of astronomy and technology-related courses required to earn the degree.

The Diploma in Astronomy is a Postgraduate degree program that can be completed in two semesters and one summer session. It is designed for astronomy educators, beginning to advanced amateur astronomers, and casual enthusiasts. Prospective students should have a prior Bachelor's degree in order to enroll in this program.

The Master of Science in Astronomy program was created to form future research astronomers and leaders in formal astronomy education in the country.

Famous quotes containing the words department of, department and/or astronomy:

... the Department of Justice is committed to asking one central question of everything we do: What is the right thing to do? Now that can produce debate, and I want it to be spirited debate. I want the lawyers of America to be able to call me and tell me: Janet, have you lost your mind?
    Janet Wood Reno (b. 1938)

All his works might well enough be embraced under the title of one of them, a good specimen brick, “On Heroes, Hero-Worship, and the Heroic in History.” Of this department he is the Chief Professor in the World’s University, and even leaves Plutarch behind.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Awareness of the stars and their light pervades the Koran, which reflects the brightness of the heavenly bodies in many verses. The blossoming of mathematics and astronomy was a natural consequence of this awareness. Understanding the cosmos and the movements of the stars means understanding the marvels created by Allah. There would be no persecuted Galileo in Islam, because Islam, unlike Christianity, did not force people to believe in a “fixed” heaven.
Fatima Mernissi, Moroccan sociologist. Islam and Democracy, ch. 9, Addison-Wesley Publishing Co. (Trans. 1992)
