Death

On October 24, 2004, around 12:30 p.m. EDT, Hendrick died in a plane crash near Martinsville, Virginia. With him were nine others who also lost their lives. The plane, on its way to the Martinsville Speedway, crashed on Bull Mountain due to pilot error in heavy fog.

After Ricky died, his 18-year-old fiancée Emily Maynard found out she was pregnant. Maynard gave birth to his daughter, Josephine Riddick "Ricki" Hendrick, who was named after him with a suffix of "-ine," on June 29, 2005, and would later compete in season 15 of The Bachelor and season eight of The Bachelorette.

Famous quotes containing the word death:

War. Fighting. Men ... every man in the whole realm is in the army.... Every man in uniform ... An economy entirely geared to war ... but there is not much war ... hardly any fighting ... yet every man a soldier from birth till death ... Men ... all men for fighting ... but no war, no wars to fight ... what is it, what does it mean?”
    Doris Lessing (b. 1919)

In the deeper layers of the modern consciousness ... every attempt to succeed is an act of aggression, leaving one alone and guilty and defenseless among enemies: one is punished for success. This is our intolerable dilemma: that failure is a kind of death and success is evil and dangerous, is—ultimately—impossible.
    Robert Warshow (1917–1955)
