Governor Mitch Daniels will be replaced in January 2013 by Governor-elect Mike Pence, as Republicans held the Indiana governorship in the 2012 election (Daniels was subject to term limits). Republican Governor-elect Pat McCrory of North Carolina will take office in January 2013, representing a Republican pickup of a governorship held by a Democrat. The net gain will result in Republicans holding governorships in 30 of the 50 states, the highest number for either party in 12 years.
In addition to governors of U.S. states, the RGA also offers membership to Republican governors of U.S. territories.

“Every morning I woke in dread, waiting for the day nurse to go on her rounds and announce from the list of names in her hand whether or not I was for shock treatment, the new and fashionable means of quieting people and of making them realize that orders are to be obeyed and floors are to be polished without anyone protesting and faces are to be made to be fixed into smiles and weeping is a crime.”
—Janet Frame (b. 1924)
“Lovers, forget your love,
And list to the love of these,
She a window flower,
And he a winter breeze.”
—Robert Frost (18741963)
“The current of our thoughts made as sudden bends as the river, which was continually opening new prospects to the east or south, but we are aware that rivers flow most rapidly and shallowest at these points.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“... the black woman can never forgethowever lukewarm the party may to-day appearthat it was a Republican president who struck the manacles from her own wrists and gave the possibilities of manhood to her helpless little ones; and to her mind the Democratic Negro is a traitor and a time-server.”
—Anna Julia Cooper (18591964)
“I do love this people [the French] with all my heart, and think that with a better religion and a better form of government and their present governors their condition and country would be most enviable.”
—Thomas Jefferson (17431826)
