Red Cross Nordic United World College

The UWC Red Cross Nordic (UWCRCN), formerly known as Red Cross Nordic United World College, was founded in 1995 and is the ninth member of the family of United World Colleges. Patrons of the college and the movement include Nelson Mandela, Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan and Queen Sonja of Norway . The first college, Atlantic College, was established by the German Educationalist Kurt Hahn to promote international understanding and peace. The size of the colleges varies between two hundred (Pearson, Nordic and Adriatic) and more than two thousand (South East Asia). Students are selected from 135 nations by National Committees or selection contacts on merit and many receive full scholarships. Students at the college are eligible, after graduation, to participate in the Shelby Davis Scholarship programme, which funds undergraduate study (based on need) for UWC students at many US universities.

Famous quotes containing the words red, cross, united, world and/or college:

    It was almost two years ago, while awaiting the imminent birth of my second child, that I decided to start working part-time. This would have been unthinkable to me when I was younger. At twenty-five I should have worn a big red A on my chest; it would have stood for ambition, an ambition so brazen and burning that it would have reduced Hester Prynne’s transgression to pale pink.
    Anna Quindlen (20th century)

    Things have dropped from me. I have outlived certain desires; I have lost friends, some by death ... others through sheer inability to cross the street.
    Virginia Woolf (1882–1941)

    All comes united to th’ admiring eyes;
    Alexander Pope (1688–1744)

    I don’t see the good of a country gentleman. Buying and selling;Mthat’s what the world has to go by.
    Anthony Trollope (1815–1882)

    Face your own ambivalence about letting go and you will be better able to help you children cope with their own feelings. The insight you gain through your own acceptance of change will bolster your confidence and make you a stronger college parent. The confidence you develop will be evident to your child, who will be able to move away from you without fear.
    Norman Goddam (20th century)
