Rampage (roller Coaster) - History

History

Construction of the coaster would commence in the fall of 1997, and the ride would celebrate its topping out ceremony on December 2, 1997. The name Rampage was selected as the winner of a name that ride contest in December 1997. The Rampage moniker was submitted by a local Pleasant Grove High School student with Scorpion's Tail and Jaguar coming in second and third place respectively. The ride's opening would coincide with the opening of VisionLand on May 23, 1998. The ride was received well and would be rated as the 3rd best wooden coaster and the 5th best overall coaster by Amusement Business in December 1998.

After a successful first year, the parks's attendance would see a significant drop resulting in the shuttering of the coaster for the 2002 season. Following the sale of the park to Southland Entertainment Group, Rampage would see a renovation by John Hinde Enterprises and reopen for the 2003 season.

Rampage gave its last public ride in 2011, before in spring 2012, Alabama Adventure was sold to a new management that has listed Rampage, as well as most of the other amusement park rides for sale, no longer to operate.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

History has neither the venerableness of antiquity, nor the freshness of the modern. It does as if it would go to the beginning of things, which natural history might with reason assume to do; but consider the Universal History, and then tell us,—when did burdock and plantain sprout first?
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Perhaps universal history is the history of the diverse intonation of some metaphors.
    Jorge Luis Borges (1899–1986)

The whole history of civilisation is strewn with creeds and institutions which were invaluable at first, and deadly afterwards.
    Walter Bagehot (1826–1877)
