RAGE (receptor) - AGE Receptors

AGE Receptors

Besides RAGE there are other receptors which are believed to bind advanced glycation endproducts. However, these receptors could play a role in removal of AGE rather than in signal transduction as it is the case for RAGE. Other AGE receptors are:

  • SR-A (Macrophage scavenger receptor Type I and II)
  • OST-48 (Oligosaccharyl transferase-4) (AGE-R1)
  • 80 K-H phosphoprotein (Proteinkinase C substrate) (AGE-R2)
  • Galectin-3 (AGE-R3)
  • LOX-1 (Lectin-like oxidized low density lipoprotein receptor-1)
  • CD36

Famous quotes containing the words age and/or receptors:

Not in vain is Ireland pouring itself all over the earth. Divine Providence has a mission for her children to fulfill; though a mission unrecognized by political economists. There is ever a moral balance preserved in the universe, like the vibrations of the pendulum. The Irish, with their glowing hearts and reverent credulity, are needed in this cold age of intellect and skepticism.
    Lydia M. Child (1802–1880)

Our talk of external things, our very notion of things, is just a conceptual apparatus that helps us to foresee and control the triggerings of our sensory receptors in the light of previous triggering of our sensory receptors.
Willard Van Orman Quine (b. 1908)
