June 12-13 The first wave of Soviet deportations from Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina. Not a public remembrance/mourning day. - On June 12–13, 1941, 29,839 members of families of "counter-revolutionaries and nationalists" from the Moldavian SSR, and from the Chernivtsi and Izmail oblasts of the Ukrainian SSR were deported to Kazakhstan, the Komi ASSR, the Krasnoyarsk Krai, and the Omsk and Novosibirsk oblasts. Deportations were repeated in June 22, 1942, July 6, 1949 and February 19, 1951.

August 23 Ribbentrop - Molotov pact Not a public remembrance/mourning day. - On August 23, 1939, USSR and Nazi Germany agree to divide Eastern Europe into spheres of influence. The secret protocol attached to the agreement specifies Soviet interest on annexing Bessarabia.
August 23 Romania leaves Axis and joines Allies Communist Romania national holiday, so-called "Liberation from the fascist yoke". On 23 August 1944, King Michael joined with pro-Allied opposition politicians (who included the communists) and led a successful coup with support from the army. Romania joines the Allies but the same time enters Soviet sphere of influence for 55 years.
October 25 Armed Forces Day Not a public holiday. Observed by the Romanian Army and its veterans on the anniversary of the liberation of Carei, the last Romanian city under horthyst-fascist occupation during World War II. Also the birthday of King Michael I
December 8 Constitution Day Referendum on the Romanian Constitution was held in 1991 - not a public holiday
