In arguably its most influential manifestation, the system of prophecy practiced by the babalawos and iyanifas of the historically Yoruba regions of West Africa have bequeathed to the world a corpus of fortune-telling poetic methodologies so intricate that it has been added by UNESCO to its official intangible cultural heritage of the World list.
