Projective Linear Group - Representation Theory

Representation Theory

A group homomorphism from a group G to a projective linear group is called a projective representation of the group G, by analogy with a linear representation (a homomorphism ). These were studied by Issai Schur, who showed that projective representations of G can be classified in terms of linear representations of central extensions of G. This led to the Schur multiplier, which is used to address this question.

Famous quotes containing the word theory:

... liberal intellectuals ... tend to have a classical theory of politics, in which the state has a monopoly of power; hoping that those in positions of authority may prove to be enlightened men, wielding power justly, they are natural, if cautious, allies of the “establishment.”
