Princess Tours - Car History

Car History

In 1982, a man named Thomas Rader started the cruise operation “Alaska Tour Operators.” The operation was renamed “Tour Alaska” the following year in conjunction with the purchase of four ex-MILW superdomes. These cars held 60 passengers each, featuring fine dining on board.

In 1986, P&O Princess Cruises purchased Tour Alaska, and in 1988 replaced the four superdome cars with four ultradome cars. These are the cars in use today. The cars came in pairs and shared a kitchen which cooked for the dining rooms downstairs. In 1992, Princess Tours commissioned two new cars to be built, which were introduced for the 1993 season. These cars, as well as the cars built in 1996 and 1999, are all self-contained and can operate independently from the others, unlike the earlier cars.

Famous quotes containing the words car and/or history:

One way to do it might be by making the scenery penetrate the automobile. A polished black sedan was a good subject, especially if parked at the intersection of a tree-bordered street and one of those heavyish spring skies whose bloated gray clouds and amoeba-shaped blotches of blue seem more physical than the reticent elms and effusive pavement. Now break the body of the car into separate curves and panels; then put it together in terms of reflections.
    Vladimir Nabokov (1899–1977)

While the Republic has already acquired a history world-wide, America is still unsettled and unexplored. Like the English in New Holland, we live only on the shores of a continent even yet, and hardly know where the rivers come from which float our navy.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
