The fruit is known by different regional names in countries of production: in Trinidad it is the yellow star apple or caimitt (distinct from the star apple); Colombians know it as the camio, caimito amarillo (again not to be confused with Chrysophyllum cainito, which is known as caimito in some countries) or madura verde; in Ecuador it is known as the luma or cauje, while in Venezuela it is known as the temare. Other common names are abio, and (in Portugal) abieiro.

Famous quotes containing the word names:

In a time of confusion and rapid change like the present, when terms are continually turning inside out and the names of things hardly keep their meaning from day to day, it’s not possible to write two honest paragraphs without stopping to take crossbearings on every one of the abstractions that were so well ranged in ornate marble niches in the minds of our fathers.
    John Dos Passos (1896–1970)

Watt’s need of semantic succour was at times so great that he would set to trying names on things, and on himself, almost as a woman hats.
    Samuel Beckett (1906–1989)
