Polytropic Process

A polytropic process is a thermodynamic process that is reversible and obeys the relation:

where p is the pressure, V is volume, n, the polytropic index, is any real number, and C is a constant. This equation can be used to accurately characterize processes of certain systems, notably the compression or expansion of a gas and in some cases liquids and solids.

Famous quotes containing the word process:

The process of education in the oldest profession in the world is like any other educational process, in that it requires time and effort and patience; it can only be acquired by taking one step at a time, though the steps become accelerated after the first few.
