Poetry in Motion Today

In the Spring of 2009, Poetry in Motion was temporarily suspended in New York. The Poetry Society of America will relaunch the NYC branch in the summer of 2010, returning poems to the city bus system. Today the program is active in Dallas, Denver, St. Louis, and Los Angeles.

Famous quotes containing the words poetry in, poetry, motion and/or today:

There is nothing more poetic than the truth. He who does not see poetry in it will always be a poor versifier outside of it.
    Multatuli [Eduard Douwer Dekker] (1820–1887)

Our poetry emulates the recent progress in military strategy: Our army’s strength is the foot soldiers.
    Franz Grillparzer (1791–1872)

Thence, flow! conceit and motion to rehearse
Pastoral terrors of youth still in the man,
Torsions of sleep, in emblematic verse
Rattling like dice unless the verse shall scan
    All chance away....
    Allen Tate (1899–1979)

A new world is not made simply by trying to forget the old. A new world is made with a new spirit, with new values. Our world may have begun that way, but today it is caricatural. Our world is a world of things.... What we dread most, in the face of the impending débâcle, is that we shall be obliged to give up our gewgaws, our gadgets, all the little comforts that have made us so uncomfortable.... We are not peaceful souls; we are smug, timid, queasy and quakey.
    Henry Miller (1891–1980)
