Placidia - Family

Family

Placidia was the second daughter of Valentinian III and Licinia Eudoxia. Her older sister was Eudocia, who became the wife of Huneric, son of Gaiseric, king of the Vandals. Both were named for their grandmothers: Eudocia for their maternal grandmother Aelia Eudocia, and Placidia for their paternal grandmother Galla Placidia. Placidia is estimated to have been born between 439 and 443.

Famous quotes containing the word family:

I think the ideal situation for a family is to be completely incestuous.
    William Burroughs (b. 1914)

If we can find a principle to guide us in the handling of the child between nine and eighteen months, we can see that we need to allow enough opportunity for handling and investigation of objects to further intellectual development and just enough restriction required for family harmony and for the safety of the child.
    Selma H. Fraiberg (20th century)

In the years of the Roman Republic, before the Christian era, Roman education was meant to produce those character traits that would make the ideal family man. Children were taught primarily to be good to their families. To revere gods, one’s parents, and the laws of the state were the primary lessons for Roman boys. Cicero described the goal of their child rearing as “self- control, combined with dutiful affection to parents, and kindliness to kindred.”
    C. John Sommerville (20th century)
