Pioneer Village (Utah) - Village China Shop

Village China Shop

This china shop contains pieces made from 1830 to 1910. Many of the pieces were carried across the plains by pioneers who knew that there would only be enough room in their covered wagons for a few of their most precious possessions.

Famous quotes containing the words village, china and/or shop:

The startings and arrivals of the cars are now the epochs in the village day.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

    The roof of England fell
    Great Paris tolled her bell
And China staunched her milk and wept for bread
    Karl Shapiro (b. 1913)

The post-office appeared a singularly domestic institution here. Ever and anon the stage stopped before some low shop or dwelling, and a wheelwright or shoemaker appeared in his shirt- sleeves and leather apron, with spectacles newly donned, holding up Uncle Sam’s bag, as if it were a slice of home-made cake, for the travelers, while he retailed some piece of gossip to the driver, really as indifferent to the presence of the former as if they were so much baggage.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
