Perverted-Justice - Notable Incidents

Notable Incidents

Von Erck once acted against Bruce Raisley, a man who was allegedly making graphic violent threats against Perverted-Justice contributors and volunteers after a lack of response from law enforcement. Raisley, describing himself as a former Perverted-Justice member, claimed to media that the group used a photograph of his son in a Perverted-Justice decoy profile. Perverted-Justice denied the statement. Von Erck "set out to destroy by posing as a woman, seducing him online with graphic sex chats, posting the transcripts on the web, and threatening to release a purported video of the individual masturbating..." The individual was lured to an airport waiting area, where he was secretly photographed by associates of Von Erck. The photos were later posted online along with a warning against further threats and attacks. In 2010 Raisley was convicted of orchestrating a DDoS attack against sites carrying the story. Raisley was sentenced to two years in prison and ordered to pay $90,383 in restitution for the attacks.

Famous quotes containing the words notable and/or incidents:

In one notable instance, where the United States Army and a hundred years of persuasion failed, a highway has succeeded. The Seminole Indians surrendered to the Tamiami Trail. From the Everglades the remnants of this race emerged, soon after the trail was built, to set up their palm-thatched villages along the road and to hoist tribal flags as a lure to passing motorists.
—For the State of Florida, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

An element of exaggeration clings to the popular judgment: great vices are made greater, great virtues greater also; interesting incidents are made more interesting, softer legends more soft.
    Walter Bagehot (1826–1877)
