Paraxial Mesoderm - Derived Tissues

Derived Tissues

Many kinds of tissue derive from the segmented paraxial mesoderm by means of the somite. Among these are:

  • the sclerotome, which forms cartilage,
  • the syndotome, which forms tendons,
  • the myotome, which forms skeletal muscle,
  • the dermatome, which forms the dermis as well as skeletal muscle,
  • and endothelial cells.

Famous quotes containing the word derived:

These are our grievances which we have thus laid before his majesty with that freedom of language and sentiment which becomes a free people, claiming their rights as derived from the laws of nature, and not as the gift of their chief magistrate.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)
