Paper and Ink Testing - Pick Test

Pick Test

The de-lamination of the paper surface while printing is called picking. Papers with lower surface strength lead to fluff accumulation and cause the blankets to need cleaning more often. The velocity at which the paper shows the first sign of picking is measured. A higher pick velocity indicates a higher quality paper substrate, and offers better runnability and productivity in the press.

Famous quotes containing the words pick and/or test:

Industriousness and conscientiousness are often at odds, because industriousness wants to pick the still sour fruit from the tree, while conscientiousness lets it hang there too long, until it falls and bruises.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)

Tried by a New England eye, or the more practical wisdom of modern times, they are the oracles of a race already in its dotage; but held up to the sky, which is the only impartial and incorruptible ordeal, they are of a piece with its depth and serenity, and I am assured that they will have a place and significance as long as there is a sky to test them by.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
